Lei Wang is concertmaster of the South Netherlands Philharmonic. She is from Hangzhou in China, graduated from the Shanghai Conservatory before moving to Europe. In 2004 she completed her studies at the Royal Conservatory of Brussels with Katalin Sebestyen and Zygmunt Kowalski with the greatest distinction and in 2007 she obtained the Konzertexamen diploma at the Musikhochschule in Cologne under the guidance of the renowned violinist Mihaela Martin. She then perfected herself with Salvatore Accardo and Boris Belkin.

She has participated in numerous masterclasses by, among others, Zakhar Bron, Ana Chumachenko, Salvatore Accardo, Gil Shaham, Alberto Lysy, Masuko Ushida, Marco Rizzi and Vladimir Spivakov. Her career has taken her all over the world, with music festivals in Switzerland (Verbier Academy, Menuhin Academy in Blonay, Internationale Meisterkurse für Musik in Zurich) and Japan (Pacific Music Festival).

In October 2002, she won the 29th edition of the “Henri Vieuxtemps” Prize in Verviers. In 2005 she also won two special prizes in the international “Rodolfo Lipizer” competition in Gorizia, Italy. She also regularly performs as a soloist and in chamber music in Europe and China. She has soloed with various conductors, including Dimitri Liss, Duncan Ward, Ed Spanjaard, Arjan Tien, Peter Dijkstra and Jan Cober.

After nine years as deputy concertmaster in the Brussels Philharmonic, Lei has been principal concertmaster of the South Netherlands Philharmonic since 2013 and is also guest concertmaster in various orchestras in Belgium, the Netherlands and Germany. Since 2009, Lei is professor of violin at the LUCA School of Arts in Leuven. She regularly gives masterclasses and coaching sessions in Europe and China. Many of her students acquired regular orchestra jobs or achieved success at competitions.

Lei plays on a Ferdinando Gagliano, built in Naples around 1770.
