Dark Fire

Dark Fire, Donker Vuur, that is the title of the latest CD by cellist Joachim Eijlander, a regular guest at our Podium. Joachim is a musician of contacts and new paths. This time he brings along duduk player Kadir Sonuk, guitarist Izhar Elias and accordionist Vincent van Amsterdam. On the program connecting music from Turkey, Azerbaijan, Georgia and Spain.

The philosopher Martin Heidegger (1889-1976) described the meeting between the organized philosophical world of the ancient Greeks and the mystical, profound world of the East as a dark fire. This fire is said to have brought relief to Greek poetry. I found the image of dark fire lighting up upon meeting an inspiring image. With Heidegger it was mainly about east and west, but for me it is also about getting to know the worlds of other people and especially of other musicians', says Joachim.
