Izhar Elias - guitar

Guiter through the centuries

The poetic style and groundbreaking programming of Izhar Elias is founded on an extensive deepening of historical performance practice (Renaissance, Baroque and early 19th century), chamber music and contemporary music combined with multimedia. Izhar gave numerous concerts in Europe, Russia, South-East Asia, Australia and the US. He received the prestigious Dutch Music Prize, the highest state award that can be awarded to a musician working in classical music. Since September 2019, Izhar has been teaching at the Conservatory of Amsterdam.

Izhar Elias has an impressive number of albums to his name. His thirteenth album was released in October 2020: 'Schubert's Guitars', together with guitarist Fernando Riscado Cordas, played on special guitars from Schubert's time. And in January 2021 his 14th album was released: Le Plaintif, with French baroque music by his ensemble Cordevento.

Our concerts are programmed by Marjolijn Sengers. Why did she choose this concert? Guitar is one of the most intimate instruments I know, but which, perhaps precisely because of that intimateness, are only programmed in recital form in dribs and drabs. Our stage is ideal for enjoying the most beautiful guitar music in close proximity. And with Izhar we have a guitarist who dares to open up to his audience.
