Martin Oei – piano

Martin Oei was born twenty-five years ago and has now built up a nice list of musical achievements. At the age of nine he received his first piano lesson. He won several competitions, gave his first solo recital at the age of 16 in the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam and performed several times with pianist Daniel Wayenberg, who died in 2017 at the age of ninety. Martin Oei studied with Martijn van der Hoek and Henry Kelder, among others, obtained his master's degree cum laude in 2020 and has already made four CDs well-received by the music press.

The program of Podium Klassiek Eindhoven is put together by Marjolijn Sengers. Why did she choose this concert?

Yes, it's true, we were supposed to receive Florestan Bataillie this day, but unfortunately, he had to cancel and will come next season. But we have the young Dutch Martin Oei, and that is a talent to be reckoned with. He a pianist of the romantic repertoire. So this is the chance to program the sonata in B by Franz Liszt, a versatile work in which, to my taste, both the virtuoso and the profound, more hushed side of the composer are expressed.
