How musical are birds? Why do they sing? Does a bird's song sound like music only to us, or do birds experience music just like humans? Professor of music cognition Henkjan Honing, violinist Merel Vercammen and accordionist Wilco Oomkes will examine this subject under the title of 'Finding out'. Merel and Wilco play bird music by Vivaldi, Dvorak and Trojan and improvisations on the character of birds. Henkjan explains what is special about the pigeon, zebra finch and cockatoo. And who knows, a blackbird will also pass by.

Researcher in molecular genetics Laura Wesseldijk explains everything about musical DNA and together with pop duo (and twins) Clean Pete she tests the audience!

This afternoon is derived from the SNAAR festival that was held in Tivoli Vredenburg in May 2022, in which initiator Merel Vercammen and de haar explored the combination of science and music in an accessible and educational way. This afternoon promises to be one with many facts, convincing arguments, humor and of course beautiful and versatile music.
Not only music and science can be connected, the combination of music and good food also works well. From 3 p.m. to 5.30 p.m., in addition to music, we offer a refined melange of Italian snacks, provided by Giovanni Cabana, the acclaimed chef of De Kazerne.
