Pieter van Loenen viool, Tobias Borsboom piano – The silence between

“The music is not in the notes, but in the silence between the notes.” This quote, attributed to Claude Debussy, got Pieter van Loenen and Tobias Borsboom thinking. What could that phrase mean, they wondered. Through music by Stravinsky, Poulenc, Takemitsu, Schwertsik and of course Debussy, this album explores the possible interpretations of 'the silence between', the place where the music is located.

Igor Strawinsky (1882-1971)
Le baiser de la fée – Divertimento
-Danses suisse
-Scherzo (Au moulin)
-Pas de deux

Toru Takemitsu (1957)
Distance de fée

Claude Debussy (1862-1918)
Beau soir

Kurt Schwertsik (1935)
Unterwegs nach Heliligenstadt

Francis Poulenc (1899-1963)
Vioolsonate FP 119
-Allegro con fuoco
-presto tragico

Pianist Tobias Borsboom studied with Jan Wijn and followed masterclasses with Maria Joao Pires, among others. He is regarded as a great talent with a 'jewel of a touché who 'as a master storyteller evokes the true tension'.
Violist Pieter van Loenen is a finalist of the Oskar Back competition 2016 and won the Dutch Classical Talent Audience Award in 2019 with a solo recital program that he performed in all major halls of the country. Both musicians are praised for their all-round musical approach.

The program of Podium Klassiek Eindhoven is put together by Marjolijn Sengers. Why did she choose this concert?
‘… ‘The title stands for the alternately restrained and spontaneous choice of music and the way this duo plays. Intimate, modest, yet showing color, musically intelligent, enjoying every note that rolls off their instrument with admiration and amazement ...' according to Luister 754, July last year.
What else can I add to that!
